Summer Wood Bat Season 2021
[[Expanded Age Range coming in 2022! Check back soon for information about leagues for ages beyond 35 years old!]]
Our Wood Bat League continues to grow and flourish. The league attracts a wide range of active players - high school seniors thru 35 years old - resulting in a very competitive level of play. This isn't your company softball team.
Here are the plans for this summer.
All games are played at the Brook Run Park Baseball Fields, where we have two artificial turf fields. Referred to by their relative locations, our East Field is 355' to center while the West Field is smaller at 315' to center with an 8' fence, making it more challenging even for power hitters.
Each team in the the Summer Wood Bat League will play 12 regular season games. Playoff format and schedule will be determined at the end of the season. Teams will generally play one game during the week and one on Sundays. Weekday games begin at 8 pm to allow for ease in scheduling and so players can better plan their work and/or summer school schedules. Sunday games will be in the afternoon and evening with start times depending on the number of teams in the league. The season will start in mid-June and run through early-August.
Players who graduated from high school beginning in 2005 through rising high school seniors (Class of 2023) are eligible to play. You may not be older than 35 years old when the season ends.
We encourage complete teams to register as a team. The fee to register a team is $2,950. The League will place individual players on existing teams or form additional teams if there are enough individual players. The goal is to play baseball. The League considers 12-14 to be an ideal number of players per team, depending on team member work schedules. You can register your team by clicking here.
We use wooden/composite wooden bats which are provided by the League. Participants can use their own wooden bats at their own risk for breakage. High school rules, with some modifications, are used. Contact is to be avoided when ever possible. Click here for full rules.
Special Note on the artificial turf fields: No metal cleats are allowed. Players must use turf (synthetic) cleats, or tennis shoes (not recommended). Players found to be using metal cleats will be ejected from the game and the park.
Also, no sunflower seeds, shelled peanuts or gum allowed on the field, in the dugout or in the spectator area. The league considers this the responsibility of the teams - coaches and players - to enforce.
All players will conduct themselves appropriately at all times, on or off the field. Players that fail to do so may be asked to leave the league or, if their behavior warrants it, reported to the City of Dunwoody police.
There will be absolutely no drinking alcohol, smoking or illegal substance use permitted by any player, coach or other team member at the park. Illegal activity will be reported to the City of Dunwoody police.
Individual player registration is $310, payable when you register. Team fees are $2,950. This includes liability insurance, lights, umpires, field preparation, balls, wooden/composite bats, helmets, catcher’s gear, etc. For an additional $300, the league will provide shirts and hats (with DSB logo) for up to 14 players/team. Uniforms must have numbers and team names must be approved in advance of the season by the Summer League Director. Players are not allowed to wear shorts during a game.
No Pay = No Play
No individual player or pre-formed team will be allowed to practice or play games if they have not paid their registration fees. Pay when you register.
Individual players that need financial assistance should contact the league about available scholarships.
The League will assign players who are not part of a pre-formed team to a team that needs players. If there are enough players without a team, the League will form a team of such players. If you are interested in coaching for forming one of these teams (player/coach is okay!), please send an email to Jerry Weiner, Summer League Director,
. Include your phone number and a brief description of your recent baseball activity.
